Issues of Human Complexity

My work combines drawing, printmaking, photography and installation to create works of art that explore internal structural systems. I am intrigued by the scientific process in which intense investigation of minute subunits is integral to understanding the whole picture. Transitioning between macro- and microcosmic worlds, I use the contrast between darkness and light to create abstractions of space reminiscent of both natural and human landscapes.

Still Light Series

My multi-layered screenprints explore the ephemeral qualities of light and glass. I enjoy the unpredictability that comes when creating images whose subject matter embodies an elusive physical nature. In one simple movement a new image can appear then in a split second it can disappear again. The interaction of darkness and light is intrinsic to my work and undoubtedly reflects the impact Scotland's northern light has had on my perceptions.
