Sarah Sanford is an artist printmaker who has exhibited her work in the United States and throughout the UK. She has participated in many juried and invitational shows. Recent projects include Lightscape (2008), Alchemy: art+aesthetics gallery, Indianapolis; Herception, Indy Women Printmakers (2008) Basile Center for Art & Public Life, Herron School of Art & Design, Indianapolis; Wrexham Print International 2007, Wrexham Arts Center & Memorial College, Yale College, Wales; Still Light (2006), Edinburgh Printmakers; Recent Works, Artist in Residence (2006), The Edinburgh Academy; London Contemporary Art Fair (2005); Medical Edge (2004) Euroart Gallery, London; What’s on Your Mind? (2004) Project, Wichita, KS; and Flix (2003) at the Rubicon Gallery, Dublin.
Her images are created through a variety of printmaking mediums with the process of layering being the essential component. She combines colour, texture and pattern with the contrast between darkness and light, to create abstractions of space representing inner worlds within ourselves.
Sanford was a prize winner at the Royal Scottish Academy 2003 Student Exhibition. That same year she was awarded an Andrew Grant Travelling Scholarship from the Edinburgh College of Art. She was the Artist in Residence at The Edinburgh Academy from 2005-06 and her work is held in numerous private collections throughout the UK, Saudi Arabia and the United States as well as in the Edinburgh College of Art’s permanent collection.
Sarah Sanford b. 1974 in Michigan received a Master of Fine Art degree in Printmaking from the Edinburgh College of Art in 2003 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1996. Having returned recently to the USA after living in Scotland for five years, she now resides in Indianapolis and teaches at the Herron School of Art and Design. She will be relocating to Santa Cruz, CA in August, 2008.
